Weekend in Lexington

Last weekend we went for a short overnight trip to Lexington, Kentucky to see the horses. Joe and I have been there a couple times, but thought Dillon would enjoy it this time, so he went along with us. Owen stayed with Grammy and Poppy. I think Dillon had a good time, and although we only stayed for 5 races (there are 10 per day), we had a good time, too. Here are some pics...

First we visited the Kentucky Horse Park - pretty neat place to go if you want to spend a half to a full day looking at things all about horses.
We watched a parade of champions - one of the horses they brought out for everyone to see was Cigar - he was a huge sensation in the early 90's (I don't remember, but my parents did)...

Dillon's first real pony ride - we thought for sure he would freak out and not get on, but he didn't, we actually caught him smiling! He did make it around the ring twice before he said he was all done. I was impressed, though - it was a lot of rocking movement for him to be holding himself on by the saddle handle thing (whatever it's called!).
The hotel stay was successful - Dillon got his own big bed to sleep in and did great!

Before we went into the racetrack, we "tailgated" for all of 10 minutes...

The horses are amazing to watch, and it is even more fun if your horse wins! We left in the black, so that was good! We highly recommend this weekend trip to anyone, it is just a beautiful place, and a lot of fun...

First Haircuts using the clippers!

We had fun about a week ago playing barbershop - first time using the clippers to cut hair. Owen was my first test subject, and was a great sport.

Dillon saw that it was nothing to be afraid of, and went next - he did great, too. (I don't have an after picture for him, unfortunately.) I must say, those electric clippers are WAY easier - it took about 10 min. per child as opposed to 30-45 min. with the scissors! Joe thinks it's funny and calls me his beauty school drop-out, because I like to cut their hair so much. It's only because I don't have a girl to do her hair, though! All I can do with the boys is cut it!
